Banana splits

Have you ever slipped on a banana peel?

I haven't. I'm pretty sure most people I know haven't.

So why does it always happen in cartoons? Where'd the idea come from if people generally don't slip on banana peels?

Are they really that slippery? I'd go test it, but I hate bananas, and the palex is sleeping & I can't wake him and forcefeed him one to justify the wasted fruit skin. Not even in the name of science.
